Where I was from.

After an unexpected turn of events I found myself suddenly leaving Europe after almost nine years. Needing a place to land immediately I chose my old hometown of Los Angeles. It was as though a city that had fallen asleep in the 1970’s had woken up to an amphetamine fueled rush of civic change. I set myself the task to seek out reminders of the city as I remembered -or at least what the city looked like in my memories.

About Me

Piper
Piper Mavis often refers to herself as a story teller and knows that if she were born in another time she would have been a memorial builder or a headstone carver. Originally focused on lens-based media her practice has grown to include large site-specific installations as well as small sculptural objects as she explores themes of loss, nostalgia, memory and personal histories. She earned her BA from Bennington College in the United States and her MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art in the United Kingdom. She has exhibited internationally. www.pipermavis.com
